Gold Cup weekend in Dubbo isn’t just about what happens on the track.
Before the horses hit the turf, the celebrations were already underway at Dubbo Golf Club with the Sing Out Choir & Dubbo Turf Club Gold Cup Charity Golf Day. It’s part of the wider Gold Cup weekend and a chance to swap the form guide for the fairway, catch up with familiar faces and raise money for a great local cause.
And this year, there was plenty happening out on the course.
A fantastic 96 golfers turned out for the day, with a BBQ lunch kicking things off before the midday shotgun start. From there, it was 18 holes of friendly competition, plenty of laughs and one particularly tempting prize waiting out on the course.
Nothing adds a little pressure to your golf game quite like knowing a brand-new Toyota RAV4 could be riding on your next shot.
The Hole in One prize was a RAV4 Hybrid GXL from Dubbo City Toyota & Gilgandra Toyota, giving golfers one very good reason to take an extra moment lining up their shot.
Plenty gave it their best crack, but the RAV4 ultimately came home with us.
That didn’t take anything away from the fun, though. Anne Gemmell and the Sing Out Choir team later told sponsors the Hole in One challenge was one of the highlights of the day
We love being able to support events like this, particularly when it means being part of the day rather than simply putting our name on a sign.
Along with sponsoring a hole and supplying the RAV4, Tristram and Rubee swapped the dealership for the golf course to volunteer and get amongst the action.
The final putt didn’t signal the end of the fun either, with presentations and an auction carrying the celebrations into the evening and bringing players, sponsors and supporters together for Sing Out Choir.
And that’s a pretty fitting way to begin Gold Cup weekend.
The golf day brings together Sing Out Choir, Dubbo Turf Club, local businesses, volunteers and the wider community before the attention turns from the fairway to the racetrack.
For us, that’s part of what makes Dubbo Gold Cup weekend so special. It’s not only about one race on one afternoon. It’s a chance for the community to come together, support some great local organisations and enjoy everything that happens around one of Dubbo’s favourite weekends.
From the first tee to the finish line, we loved being along for the ride.
